An American Timeline (History 1700)

In reflection of how these current events from 2010 have shaped my perception about my surrounding in the world of which I live have contributed to my current mindset. I believe that since 2010 America like myself has grown tremendously. I remember when our troops were in Iraq and then president Barak Obama was fulfilling his campaign promise to bring our troops home. It reminded me, of how when I was young and my father was in the early Iraq war of Desert Storm. When he fulfilled that campaign promise in 2011, I was very happy for all my fellow Americans that could be reunited with their loved one that had to go away. Simultaneously though some of them who were not so lucky, I understood only a small version of there pain because someone I knew who had left to fight overseas was not able to go back to their family because the war had taken his life.

From 2012-2013 I had as well grown financially as our country did. It was not by large gains but as I was attempting to hold my own as a single mother at the time, I made it through. From 2014 onward I had made a career change and quickly realized how important health care was. Entering 2016 I had a new mindset that I wanted better for myself in my terms of career and decided it was finally time to follow that direction.

Watching the presidential race of 2016 made me see women in a new light in terms of chances for bettering ourselves. Seeing Mrs. Clinton in the forefront of the Democratic presidential nominee was really inspiring. Knowing the history of the women's rights movement and seeing a first possible winner for the United States made me believe that our country has grown from the idea that Men lead over government occupations and women are coming to America's forefront. I'm very excited as well to see Ms. Stacey Abrams as the potential first African American governor for Georgia in the coming elections in November. As we finished the last 3 chapters in class with the Civil Rights Movement being one of the main topics, I know that what is currently happening in Georgia would be considered an impossible act in the south in those times. The possible win for Ms. Abrams could greatly change the future of America and echo that great change is happening within America to all around the world. Overall, I feel that as America has changed, that I myself have changed as well. Though it was not easy, and it took time, together we have grown.
