Family and Human Studies (FHS) 1500: Lifespan Human Development

Dance Performance

Reflection

How does your performance on this assignment (your signature assignments) demonstrate achievement of, or progress toward the SLCC College-wide learning objectives?

This course overall has connected me to other courses I have studied by way of better understanding myself and people as a whole. It has combined my understanding of how our bodies change biologically, how our minds grow cognitively, and how humans as a species have adapted and change. It was like a combination of science, psychology, health, etc.

In doing these assignments it made me look at the underlying layers of people in general. When I say this I mean it as of how I have come to better understand that there are levels in our life, cognitive, biological, and psychosocial development classes we naturally go through whether we realize it or not. By learning these things it made me realize that I put a lot of pressure on myself (even as a young child) with the idea that I needed to be better and realistically I was being very harsh and hadn't realized I was just being a normal kid. Looking back on phases of my own life I can see that now.

In one sense my signature assignments let me understand children a little bit better. My assumption was basically all children develop the same, but what I learned from my textbook reading, assignments, etc. that is not always the case.

When it comes to my signature assignments, it has demonstrated about my learning that I am becoming more refined in my writing and research. I believe this to be true by the aspect of my resulting scores from my writing assignments and feedback from my instructor.

This class has allowed me to change and grow by way of learning through compassion. Taking the time to better understand human development and real life experiences that remind me to be kinder to myself and other people. One of the greatest things I can look at is that there is no one-sided facts on people, that there are multiple viewpoints to be considered and to not allow single judgments on anything or anyone. It has allowed me to have better connections with people, which is a big part I feel that was lacking for me. It has given me the chance to shed a new light on life and family, which to me is the most important.
