HUMAN GEOGRAPHY (IG)
Reflect on and write (roughly 100 words) within your ePortfolio about each of the following.
-
Describe either how geospatial technology connects to an industry or field of study you are interested in pursuing. If you are directly interested in geographic science or geospatial technology, explain what you found most exciting and why.
-
I actually found this information rather intriguing on how geospatial technology is connected to healthcare. Not only is it used more frequently today to identify how to better serve patients and communities, but it has a long standing history in medical science.
-
“Dr. John Snow famously traced the source of a Cholera outbreak in 1854 London by plotting the location cases to find a cluster of victims near a city water pump. GIS has continued to be used in public health for epidemiological studies, immunizations, health policy, research and much more.” (Dhande, 2016).

Describe your current academic goals and how you plan to achieve them. Are there any limitations or barriers you need to start considering and planning to obtain your academic and career goals?
-
My current academic goals are to complete my associates degree and obtain the AS degree in Pre-Med & Health Sciences. My ways of achieving them have changed some since the last time I was asked this question. Going to college is not cheap in any aspect but my plan to successfully earn my AS degree in Pre-Med & Health Sciences is to make sure I can have enough funds to continue this journey. Not only with my own personal funds to get me through but to also apply for scholarships. I will also need to reevaluate my time for studies and homework and continue to shape them in a way that can balance off of each other. I need to continue to work through school to support my family but also make time for school so I can improve my life, my family’s life, and household income. The barriers I consider the most is creating the schedule to make sure that I can be successful. As I see classes available to me, I will have to have to adjust at that time. Juggling multiple scenarios will be tricky but it must be done.

After completing an up-to-date DegreeWorks audit, what did you learn about your current academic trajectory?
-
I learned that I am on track and I am about 60% done.
-
-
Are you on schedule, ahead of schedule, or behind schedule to meet your educational goals? Did meeting with an academic advisor (or faculty mentor) help clarify and create small and long-term goals to achieve your desired career?
-
I believe that as of this moment that I am on schedule due to my meeting with my academic advisor. If I continue my path having a full-time student schedule (9 credit hours minimum), I will in fact graduate at least within 2 years or less if I take courses over the summer. This will mean my short term goals are to finish the last of my general requirements which I am tying up this current semester and spring with long term goals to finish all of my science requirements afterwards.
-
-
How is your current academic plan of action aligned to the institution you plan to transfer to? If you don't intend to transfer to a college or university, what are your next steps following your academic career at SLCC?
-
My academic plan currently is to finish at least all of my general requirements but I can not transfer until I have some of my science classes out of the way. But looking at this from a financial standpoint, I believe it would benefit me more to stay at SLCC until I have completed all courses and obtain my AS degree and then reconsider transferring to the University of Utah. Staying at SLCC is more economical for me currently until I can further afford transferring to the U (University of Utah).
