NATALIE JASMINE
Film 1070
For decades, American film has been a staple in many societies. Even outside of the US, for other countries, it has been an influence on culture attitudes, behavior, way of thinking, as well as influence on the voices of underrepresented groups. This course has given me an eye opening experience on these influences that I may not have had before if I hadn't taken this class. Learning about the influence of the male gaze perspective to history of African American film and exploited character representations of ethnic groups and idealized visual images of women.
Hollywood in it's own right has come along way since the days of black and white film with its stereotypes of acceptable racial images to today's more open modern culture, that is still a work in progress. For my final piece in this class I have chosen to write about
how underrepresented groups in American film influence people within and outside of the US. Hollywood is definintely about storytelling, but at what cost does that do to our society as a whole. Please feel free to click the PDF icon below to read my essay on American film.
